Commission me…

If you’d like to commission me to make a picture, please be in touch.

You may want a picture, cartoon, something hand-lettered, or even a family portrait. The original may be made as a digital image (from which a print can be made) or as a traditional artwork on a piece of paper. I’ll see what I can do.

If you’re a publisher and want to send me a picture book text or editorial commission for consideration, drop me a line.

Below is some info on the process, but every job is different and I’m happy to discuss it with you.

HOW I WORK:
I’ve found the most practical way of working is to speak first, (or email if you’d prefer).

I welcome a brief from you in the first instance, and photo reference if needed. And then I go into the studio and come up with something. I don’t first work in pencil. All my drawing is one-off and more spontaneous. I present a concept for approval (the overall composition and general content of the picture, the colour-way) and we can discuss further before I make the final image.

We will agree a workflow for approvals to suit you.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE:
I supply the final artwork as a Giclé print and/or a hi-res digital version (600ppi/RGB) of the illustration. If you intend to use the image for commercial use, we’d need to discuss licensing in advance.

CREDIT:
If the image is used online or reproduced anywhere please include the credit line:

A word on portraits:
You’re commissioning me for my artistic interpretation of the subject – I’m not a photo-realist. So, whilst you might imagine your portrait to be a mirror image based on your knowledge of them, it’s unlikely I’ll gain the same result based on looking at photos. Please bear this in mind when considering me for the job.

Timescale:
This depends entirely on what is requested and my workload at the time, but I would give a delivery date

FEE:
My fee is upon application and due on approval of the digital image (not delivery of the print).
The fee is for:
+ making the work.
+ the cost of an agreed print type.
+ shipping to your location.

Framing:
This doesn’t include framing. I can arrange framing, but you will save money framing at your end.
However, if you’d prefer a framed item, I can provide this based on costings for approval.

Digital print:
if I’m producing a digital original, then I would supply a Giclée print for framing.

The cost will depend on the size of print you choose. I would provide an exact costing on application, but generally speaking you would expect to pay:

A3 (£20GBP)*
A0 (£120GBP)
prices may vary at time of printing.

(PLUS postage to your address in suitable packaging).

Alternatively, if you want to arrange for printing locally, this can be done, but I can’t guarantee the result in any way. If you wanted to reproduce the image again at another size, you will also have the digital original to do this.

Postage:
I use the UK Royal Mail for local and international postage of commissions. Prices depend on the weight of the final package and I provide a costing for approval before anything is shipped.
